I thought you might be interested in this. As we were talking about the Mutaween several weeks ago they reminded me of a similar Israeli sect of orthodox Jews that are operating in Orthodox neighborhoods.

I’m very much against these religious vigilantes that stone cars on the Sabbath. I was in Israel earlier this year having lunch with a friend of mine who runs a women’s shelter and she was telling me some horror stories about these groups. A young woman was sitting at the front of a bus and she, and a soldier trying to protect her, were beaten severely by members of this patrol because she was supposed to sit at the back of the bus.
Luckily the police appear to be beginning a crack down on these groups but the fact that they’ve been able to continue so long shows that the Orthodox community is protecting their own rather than handing them over to the police.
